Sworn Translator – Official Languages
Qualification
- Qualifying at the Written Test conducted by the Ministry of Justice.
Procedure for Submission of Applications
- Applications should be submitted only through the online and the Link for the purpose is shown at the end of this notice.
- Applications must be completed accurately and your e-mail address and telephone number must be written legibly to make you aware of any future information in this regard.
- The original copy of the Receipt asa proof of the payment of the Written Test fee is required to be uploaded.
- The question papers are arranged to be designed in such a manner as indicated below and the candidates who wish to sit more than one question paper are required to apply in compliance with the instructions under mentioned.Sinhala/English

- Applications are entertained throughout the year and in case of the applications received on or before 31st August, the Written Test is scheduled to be conducted in respect of such application within the same year.
- The Admissions of the Written Test are given to the candidates on the website before the date of the Written Test.

- The Written Test fee should be deposited to the credit of the Account Number 176-1-001-9-9025184 maintained at the Mid City Branch of the People's Bank in favor of the Secretary, Ministry of Justice, and the original copy of the Receipt received in proof of the deposit is required to be uploaded.
Procedure for selection and appointment
- Candidates who qualify at the Written Test will be appointed as Sworn Translators only upon taking and subscribing the oath/making and subscribing the affirmation before the District Court Judge in whose local jurisdiction the candidates reside.
- A list of candidates qualified to be appointed as sworn translators have been forwarded to all District Court Judges through the Ministry Information Portal
- Eligible candidates should download the recommendation letter from the Ministry website after verifying his/her identity and obtain a date from District Court Registrar to take oath before District Judge.
- Every Translator sworn in the District Court shall, immediately upon taking and subscribing the oath/making and subscribing the affirmation, forward a certified copy of the Letter of Appointment received from the District Judge to the Ministry of Justice along with the Oath or Affirmation.

Qualification
- Should qualify either at the Written Testor at a Selection Board conducted by the Ministry.
Procedure for Submission of Applications
- Applications should be submitted only by way of online.
- The Google Form must be completed accurately and your e-mail address and telephone number must be written legibly so as to make you aware of any future information in this regard.
- The fee is chargeable for the Written Test and will be notified later.
- Applications are entertained throughout the year and in case of the applications received on or before 31st August, the Written Test is scheduled to be conducted in respect of such application in immediate September within the same year.
- The Admissions of the Written Test are given to the candidates in the website before the date of the Written Test.

Procedure for selection and appointment
- Candidates who qualify at the Written Test/ at the Selection Boardwill be appointed as Sworn Translators only upon taking and subscribing the oath/making and subscribing the affirmation before the District Court Judge in the local jurisdiction of the candidate's residence.
- Letters of recommendation indicating the eligibility of the candidates who qualify for the Written Test will be dispatched to the District Court Judge in whose local jurisdiction the candidates reside with a copy to the candidate.
- Such qualified Candidates, on receipt of such letters of recommendation approach the Registrar of the District Court, indicated in the letter of recommendation to have a date appointed to take and subscribe the oath/make and subscribe the affirmation before the District Judge.
- Every Translator sworn in the District Court shall, immediately upon taking and subscribing the oath/making and subscribing the affirmation, forward a certified copy of the Letter of Appointment received from the District Judge to the Ministry of Justice along with the Oath or Affirmation.

Registration Numbers
Updating of the list of Sworn Translators and guidelines for making ready the Rubber Stamp
- Every Sworn Translator, upon having qualified at the Written Test for the Appointment of Sworn Translators and having taken and subscribed the oath/made and subscribed affirmation at the District Court within whose local jurisdiction such Sworn Translator resides, will be enrolled as a Sworn Translator in the Sworn Translator Register kept for the purpose by the Ministry.
- Further, every Sworn Translatorsare required to extend their care in making ready his/her rubber stamp to be affixed incertifying the documents as sworn translations to be adhered to the following contents.
- Every Sworn Translator’srubber stamp should bear his/her,
(i) Name
(ii) Designation(Sworn Translator)
(iii) Registration Number
(iv) Languages sworn in
(v) Address and
(vi) Telephone number/s - Further, every Sworn Translator’sSpecimen Signature is required to be sent to the Ministry in the Form as indicated below.)

Key Role
A Justice of the Peace is authorized to certify and authenticate the affidavits / documents and any such other certificates that are submitted by the general public.
Qualifications
Should have taken and subscribed the oath or made and subscribed the affirmation before the relevant Court upon being duly appointed to be a Justice of the Peace.
Procedure of the submission of applications
Duly completed applications accompanied by prescribed annexures should be sent by registered post to reach the Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Colombo 12 or be handed over to the JP Unit of the Ministry of Justice during the normal office hours.
Applications for JP Identity Cards
Applications could be obtained from the Reception or the JP Unit or from the Website of the Ministry of Justice.
Charges for the applications for JP Identity Cards
This service is provided free-of-charge.
Acceptance of applications
Duly completed applications should be sent by registered post to reach the Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Colombo 12 or be handed over to the JP Unit of the Ministry of Justice during normal office hours.
Fees payable for the processing and issuing of JP Identity Cards
A sum of Rs.200/- should be paid to credit of the account number 176-1-001-9-9025184 at the Mid-City Branch of the People’s Bank, Colombo 10 in favor of the “Secretary to the Ministry of Justice” and the credit slip issued by the Bank in proof of the payment should be attached to the application. This payment is also made at the Account Division of the Ministry of Justice.
You are kindly informed that the amount of Rs.200 charged so far for the preparation of the Identity Card of the Justice of the Peace will be revised as Rs. 500 from 01.10. 2023.
Documents required to be submitted
- A photocopy of the letter of appointment issued under the hand of the Secretary to the Ministry of Justice.
- A copy of the oath/affirmation given before the court the oath was taken and subscribed/affirmation was made and subscribed.
- A copy of the National Identity Card.
- Two colour photographs of 40 mm X 40 mm size taken within six months immediately preceding the application for the JP Identity Card.(The overleaf of the photograph should be written the applicant’s name and the JP Registration Number as is provided for in paragraph 08 the letter of appointment.)
- Receipt in proof of the payment (Credit slip if it is to the bank or the receipt if it is to the Shroff of the Ministry of Justice)
- A confirmation of Residency issued by Grama Niladhari if there exists any change in the residential address.
- A Rs.110/- stamped envelope indicating the name and the address of the applicant for delivering the JP Identity Card by post.

Key Role
A Commissioner for Oaths is authorized to certify and authenticate the affidavits and other documents submitted by the general public.
Qualifications
Should be an Attorney-at-Law enrolled at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
Documents required to be submitted
- A copy of the Enrollment Certificate certified by the Registrar of the Supreme Court.
- Duly filled Application.
Procedure for Applications
Upon being enrolled at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka as an Attorney-at-Law, the applications could be submitted as follows;

The relevant application can be obtained from the Reforms Division of the Ministry of Justice or downloaded from the Website of the Ministry of Justice. The duly completed applications accompanied by the certificate of enrollment should be handed over to the Reforms Division of the Ministry of Justice.
The facility of applying online has been provided and the link is given below. The applicants can fill the application online and upload a copy of the Enrollment Certificate certified by the Registrar of the Supreme Court. If it is not possible to upload the certificate, the applicants can submit the online application and hand over the copy of the Enrollment Certificate to the Reforms Division of the Ministry - First Floor, Ministry of Justice New Building (Kaluthota Building), Sri Sangharaja Mawatha, Colombo 10 or send it by post or fax: 0112-446226.
Please note that there is no requirement for the physical submission of an application if you apply online.

Qualifications
- Should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
- Should be a permanent resident within the relevant Sudden Death Inquirer Division.
- Should be more than 30 years and less than 55 years of age as at the closing date of the acceptance of application.
- Should have passed the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination with 03 ordinary passes. (Preference is given to those who have passed in Bio-Science Stream)
- Should bear an excellent moral character and be a person with good mental and physically order.
Procedure for Applications
- Application should be sent on or before the closing date as set out in the Government Gazette calling for applications to fill the vacancies of Inquirers into Sudden Deaths.
- Applications should be prepared as per the specimen form being published in the Government Gazette or by the Website or can be collected from the Ministry of Justice.
- Completed applications should be sent by registered post to reach the Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Colombo 12 or be handed over to the Ministry of Justice.
